The Borges Madeira comes from a solera that was started in 1940. The solera is a blending method that is more common in Jerez for sherries, but quite rare in Madeira. It's a method that blends the wines over years to achieve a consistent wine that shows the qualities of an aged one. So each bottle will have a small amount of wine from 1940. Blending also helps the younger wines take on the characteristics of the older wine much quicker. Beautifully sweet, with notes of spice, brown sugar, green tea and orange zest. The rapier like acidity that is unique to Madeira brings everything to a sharp, clear focus on the finish.
