The Monterrei region is mostly known for white wines (Benaza Blanco is an excellent example made from the Godello grape). A few light reds are made here too including Benaza Tinto, a light bodied, tart, earthy red wine made from the local Mencia grape with additional small quantities of Arauxa (Tempranillo) and Bastardo. This balanced, dry red will compliment a simple mid-week supper of roast chicken, salad and potatoes.
