Sisters Maria Jose and Mercedes are passionate about continuing to make wine as they're great grandfather did when he founded Lopez de Heredia in the late 1800's. If you ever have an opportunity to meet them I would highly recommend it, as their passion and love for the wine they make is infectious. And it should be. Their wines are without peer in Rioja. Lopez de Heredia makes absolutely amazing single vineyard wines that truly show an expression of terroir. The 2002 Bosconia Reserva is the current release and still showing very young and fairly tight for a wine with this much age on it. It just gives you an idea of how well this will age.
92 points International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Ripe red fruit, flowers and spices on the nose, with a smoky nuance emerging with aeration; very fresh for this notoriously hot vintage. Concentrated but not at all heavy, with intense red berry and floral pastille flavors and a deeper note of singed plum. The finish is bright and high-pitched, with lingering cherry and raspberry flavors and a hint of candied licorice."
